Ruth "Arlene" Lyon

October 14, 1925 — July 20, 2019

Ruth “Arlene” Lyon, age 93, of Birmingham passed away July 20, 2019 at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.

Per her wishes she has been cremated.  Graveside memorial service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 27, 2019, at Maple Hill Cemetery with Reverend Phil Campbell officiating.  Following the service there will be a luncheon at the Birmingham Lions Building.

Memorials may be made to Birmingham Homecoming log cabin restoration.  Cards and memorials may be mailed to Dave Lyon, PO Box 263, Birmingham, IA 52535.

Arlene was born October 14, 1925, to James and Lydia (Zeigler) Steele.  She married Walter Metcalf in 1942 and later divorced.  In 1946 she married Raymond Lyon in Fairfield.  He passed away June 1983.

Arlene Lived in the Glasgow or Birmingham area all her life.  She worked at Universal Producing.  Arlene was on the Birmingham Library and secretary for Birmingham Home Coming Association both for many years.  She was in charge of the Grant School Reunion in Round Prairie Township.  Up until the last few weeks she had Sunday dinner at her home and all were welcome.  Arlene was known for her world-famous angel food cake and egg noodles.  She knew no enemies and called everybody her friends.

Arlene will be missed by her children, Mary (Vern) Lisk of Keokuk, Robert Lyon of Fairfield, Vickie (Gary) Glover of Keosauqua, Louise Stammerman of Waukee and David (Diane) Lyon of Birmingham; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren and numerous step grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lydia; husband, Raymond Lyon; son, James Metcalf; one sister, Venus Luzzader; and 3 brothers, John, Robert and Dale Steele.
