Roberta Betty Jewell

Roberta Betty Jewell, 93, died September 24, 2020, at Lutheran Living, Muscatine. She was born August 28, 1927, to Charles and Winifred DeLap Robison in Muscatine, Iowa. On June 22, 1974, she married Richard Jewell, who preceded her in death in 2016.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, September 29, at 10:30 a.m., at Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield. Friends and family members are welcome to attend. Pastor John Brown will officiate and Behner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Fruitland Baptist Church or Fairfield Senior Center.

Roberta was a graduate of Muscatine High School and attended Northwestern College in Minneapolis. She worked in secretarial positions in Muscatine, Massachusetts and California. The Jewells farmed near Fairfield where Roberta was the Jefferson County Auditor for several years.

Roberta was an avid reader, and she was very fond of Bichon Frise dogs. She was an excellent cook; pies were her specialty and a welcome addition at many family dinners. She and Richard were active participants at the Fairfield Senior Center and were members of Zion Bible Church.

She is survived by her nephews, James (Connie) Brown and John (Kim) Brown, of Wilton, in addition to her sister-in-law, Erma Nelson of Burlington, and her brother-in-law, Donald Dean Jewell of Moline, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother, William, a sister, Charlotte Brown, and a nephew, David Brown.
