James (Jim) N. Downing

James (Jim) N. Downing, age 71 of Fairfield, passed away Saturday, November 21, 2020, at Select Specialty Hospital in Davenport, Iowa.

Jim was born November 20, 1949, in Milton, Iowa to Orville and Irene (Riedel) Downing. He married Barbara Downing on October 23, 1976. She preceded him in death in October, 2013. They had been married 36 years.

Jim served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed spending time with family and lending a hand whenever anyone needed anything. When he wasn’t on the go, you would find him tinkering on projects or bird watching.

Jim will be missed by his children, Marcella Downing (Tyler Rysdam) of Fairfield and Brandon Downing of Davenport; two sisters, Carolyn Talley and Janet Bitner, and one brother, Victor (Cleone) Downing.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents Orville and Irene, and his wife, Barb Downing.

Memorials may be made to the Arc of Jefferson County. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
