James Edward Sharp

July 3, 1933 — July 15, 2020

In loving memory of our dearly beloved husband, father and grandfather, James Edward Sharp, of Newton Iowa, went to be with his Lord & Savior on Wednesday, July 15, 2020. He was surrounded by his wife and family in the comfort of home at the time of his passing.

James was born on July 3, 1933, in Grinnell, IA to Isaac and Bonnie (Smith) Sharp. On November 6, 1954, he married the love of his life, Norma Jean Griffith Sharp.

Jim and Norma Jean moved to Newton where they lived and raised their family for 60 years before retiring to Douds. He worked at Maytag Company in the porcelain department for 46 years and one could say he was the epitome of the dependable Maytager at work and in his daily life. He was a kind and gentle soul that would do anything for his family and would always lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Jim was a member of the United Auto Workers Union #997. After retiring from Maytag he started his own company, Sharp Moving Services from 1996-2018. He was always on the go, up on current events, and was interested in the world around him. Jim enjoyed traveling, growing tomatoes, reading the newspaper, and was an Iowa Hawkeye fan. He loved going to the Iowa State Fair each year and always ended the day with a big bowl of ice cream. But the most important thing to him was to spend time with his family. He loved being a Grand Daddy, and dearly loved his many dogs over the years.

James will be missed by his wife Norma Jean of 66 years, his children, Daniel Sharp and Maria (Dan) Ingle, all of Douds, IA, Joseph (Erin) Sharp of Newton, IA, Five grandchildren; Brandon Evans, Colin Sharp, Cameron Sharp, Carli Silva & Lea Ingle and one great grandson Christian Evans.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac and Bonnie, three sisters and one brother; Alma, Doris, Opal & Floyd.

The family will hold a private celebration of life at a later date. Cards and memorials may be mailed to Norma Jean Sharp, 14556 Washington Street, Douds, IA 52551
