Herman J. Hendrichsen

Herman J. Hendrichsen passed away on May 1, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family.

Herman Junior Hendrichsen 85, was born in Cotter Iowa on April 13, 1935. To Herman Henry Hendrichsen and Nova LaVaun (Decker) Hendrichsen.

In 1936 the family moved from Cotter to a farm south of Stockport where Herman grew up.  He graduated from Bonaparte High School and was drafted into the Army where he served 2 years.

On October 15, 1960 Herman married Lula M. Reed. To this union 3 children were born, Brenda, Rhonda and Brent.

Herman worked for many years in finance, during this time the family lived in Ottumwa, Oskaloosa and Council Bluffs before moving back to Fairfield in 1971. For the next couple of years, he was an Assistant State Auditor.  Ultimately, he owned his own Commodities/Broker business until his retirement. Upon retiring Herman spent time doing things he enjoyed whether travelling, going to auctions, golfing, bowling or spending time with family and friends.  Herman was always a sports enthusiast enjoying basketball and baseball.  He was a member of the Fairfield Friends Church.

Left to share the memories are his wife Lu, his children Brenda (Brad), Rhonda, and Brent.  Nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Sister Jean (Herb) Saunders, brothers Duane (Sandy), Larry (Marcia).  Many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Preceding Herman in death were his parents, sister and brother-in-law Joanna and Harold Horstman, infant brother Jerry Dean, two nephews, Marty Hendrichsen and Alan VanWinkle, niece, Debbie Sue Saunders..

Open visitation will be 8:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 5, 2020, at Behner Funeral Home.

Private family graveside service will be held at Bonaparte Cemetery with Pastor Len Maselli and Pastor Brad Hendrickson officiating.

In-lieu of flowers a memorial has been established and can be mailed to 1005 South 8th Street, Fairfield, IA 52556.
