Donald Norman Levesque

Donald Norman Levesque, born August 28, 1942, in Manchester, NH, passed away February 28, 2022, in Fairfield, Iowa.  Don loved peace, people, and all things international.

He graduated from St. Anselm College, Manchester, NH in 1965 with a degree in French. As a Peace Corps volunteer, he spent 2 years in Tunisia and 2 years in Honduras (1965-1969) and became an officer of Volunteer Placement for the Peace Corps in Washington, DC 1970-71. He received a Master’s degree in Education from Temple University in 1973 and taught high school Spanish and French in the Philadelphia area from 1971-1975.

Don became a teacher of the Transcendental Meditation (TM) program in 1975 in Arosa, Switzerland and taught TM primarily in Philadelphia and the Manchester, NH areas. He was an admissions officer at Hesser College in Manchester, NH from 1978-1982.

Don and Sherry Ford were married in 1980 in NH. They moved to Maharishi International University (MIU) Fairfield, Iowa in 1982 where they participated in the Creating Coherence program. Don became head of International Admissions at MIU (1986-1995). In 1989 he was honored with the Outstanding MIU Volunteer Staff Member Award.

Don taught English as a foreign language to refugee and immigrant children at Hillside Middle School, Manchester, NH 1996 -2009. Don and Sherry returned to the MIU/Fairfield, Iowa Community in 2010.

Don was deeply loved and respected by his family, friends, co-workers and students. He was a dedicated teacher, highly competent, dependable, trustworthy and known for his quick wit and sense of humor.

Family members include his wife Sherry (Ford) Levesque, sisters-in-law Nancy Ford Huckins and Susan Conway, a niece Anne Gagnon, nephews David, Michael and Joel Levesque, Jeremy Huckins and their families.  He was preceded in passing by his 2 brothers, Rev. Robert Levesque, OMI and Richard Levesque.

An online Celebration of Life will be held at the convenience of the family.
