Dennis (Grandpa) Mercer

Dennis (Grandpa) Mercer, age 83 of Fairfield, passed away, Tuesday, October 16, 2018, at his home.

Visitation for family & friends will be 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm, Friday, October 19, 2018 at Behner Funeral Home.

Graveside service will be 3:00 pm, Friday, October 19, 2018 at Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Fairfield with Pastor Gordon Hawkins (Chaplin Hospice).

Memorials may be made to Hospice (Mt. Pleasant).  Cards and memorials may be mailed to 2111 Osage Ave., Fairfield, Iowa 52556.

Dennis was born July 21, 1935, to George and Gladys (McMuren) Mercer.  He married Barbara Prunty October 31, 1952, in Fairfield.  They celebrated 54 years of marriage before she passed away July 1, 2007.

Dennis was a laborer at Loudens for 45 years.  He was a member of Lockridge Rough Riders Saddle Club.  He loved to watch horses and read western novels.  Dennis looked forward to spending time with his family and go for a car ride to get ice cream.   He will be missed by those who called him dad, grandpa, great grandpa, uncle and friend.

Left to share Dennis’s memories are his children, Taffa (Richard, deceased) Moore of Selma, IA, Steve (Barbara) Mercer of Waynesboro, GA, Kathy (Kevin Sinn), deceased, Tim (Jean) Mercer and Pat (Carolyn) Brinkmeier all of Fairfield; 11 grandchildren, Ryan (Amber) Fritz, Steven (Kassie) Mercer, Joni (Terri) Hanshaw, Amber (Doug) Wise, Justin (Caitlyn) Mercer, Clinton Mercer, Brittnay (Shawn) Lamb, Ryon Etcher, Kendra Sinn (Rob), Kendall (Jamie) Sinn and Angie (Jimmy) Moore; and 26 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; daughter, Kathy Sinn; two grandsons, Steven Mercer and Chad Fritz; 3 siblings, Jim Mercer, Virginia Peters and Darrell Mercer.
