Charles L. Davisson

April 18, 1939 — October 11, 2021

Charles L. Davisson, 82, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, October 11, 2021, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, of pulmonary complications of COVID-19. Per his family’s wishes, only private observances will be held.

Charles, the son of Charles and Wealtha Davisson, was born on April 18, 1939, in Perlee, Iowa.  He attended a one-room schoolhouse in Perlee and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1957. He went on to earn both BA and MBA degrees from The University of Iowa.

He was united in marriage to Barbara Stopher on December 28, 1958. He moved to the Cedar Rapids area in 1965 and worked at Collins Radio until it was sold to Rockwell. He then became an entrepreneur, owning real estate, laundromats and built a transportation business that employed over 400 people throughout Iowa. He was a long-time member of First Congregational Church in Cedar Rapids.

Charles strongly valued education and passed that along to his children who each earned post-graduate degrees and are also entrepreneurs within their respective fields. He also loved to travel with his family. Some of his favorite spots were Colorado, Europe and the Cayman Islands. While he was quiet, he was known as kind and gentle and was always willing to help others. His presence will be sorely missed.

The family is extremely grateful to the Heart and Vascular Center at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for their outstanding care of Charles over three decades.

Charles is survived by his wife, Barbara; children Robin Davisson (David Skorton) of Washington, DC and Chuck Davisson and Monique Johnson (Larry), both of Cedar Rapids, as well as two grandchildren, Gabriel and Roman.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Wealtha and brother Ray Davisson.
