Virginia L. Schiedel

Virginia L. Schiedel, 74, a resident of Fairfield, passed away Thursday, May 29, 2025 at Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.

Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2025 at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield. The family will not be present. A graveside service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Iowa Donor Network in care of Don Schiedel 2153-175th St. Fairfield, Iowa 52556.

Virginia was born December 28, 1950 in Numa, Iowa, the daughter of William Lewis and Edith Eleanor (Leopard) Guffey. After graduating high school in 1969 from Centerville, Iowa, Virginia moved to Des Moines where she worked for Bankers Life Insurance as a commission clerk and Big A Auto Parts warehouse as a billing clerk. She stayed in Des Moines until her first son, Chad Lawrence Guffey, was born in 1972.

When she moved back to Centerville, she worked for a Gambles store until 1974. She then married Willis Charles Norman Paulk from Rockford, Illinois. She then moved to Rockford for a few months until they moved back to Centerville. They moved a few times ending in Ottumwa, Iowa, where her husband then worked for Cargil food plant. During that marriage, two children were born, Lacy Eleanor in 1975 and Shawn Adam in 1976. They were divorced in 1977.

Virginia then married Michael Lee Baxter in 1979, and two children were born in that marriage, Michael Lee Baxter in 1980 and Jon Paul in 1982. Virginia worked several jobs at one time to support her children including ColorMaster photo, Target, Hotel Ottumwa, Fairfield Inn and Pella Windows. Virginia and Michael divorced in 2004.

In 2006, she married Donald Gene Schiedel from Fairfield, Iowa, where they lived on a farm outside of town. Virginia is preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings; she was the youngest. Her son Chad passed in 2013.
