Virginia Pearl Conn

February 7, 1923 — July 2, 2016

Virginia Pearl Conn passed away Saturday, July 2, 2016 at her home in Monroe. She was born in Jefferson County, IA on February 7, 1923 to parents William and Flossie M. (Knox) Crawford. She had seven siblings, 3 brothers and 4 sisters.

Virginia moved to Oregon with her family in September 1948. She lived in the Alpine area and later moved to Monroe. In 1975, she moved to Corvallis to be near her place of employment. Later she moved back to Monroe.

Virginia worked hard all her life to support her family. She held various jobs… picking beans, working in a cannery, babysitting, or whatever was available. Her long term and final employment was with Oregon State University, working as a stockroom clerk in the Chemistry Department. She retired in March 1988, after 22 years working in Gilbert Hall (at OSU).

After retirement Virginia was able to spend extended summer vacations visiting her family in the mid-west. She traveled around the United States with her brother Bill and his wife Lucille. Also, many of the mid-west based family visited her in Oregon over the years.

Virginia was a very loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great great grandmother. She was greatly loved in return by her family. Virginia was an excellent cook and prepared many special meals, especially for holidays and birthdays. Among her most requested and delicious homemade specialties were her chicken and noodles, peach cobbler, coleslaw, and so much more! She also put much time and love into producing beautifully wrapped gifts for her family over the years.

Virginia is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Eldridge (Bill) and Marilyn Green (Chuck); four grandchildren, Debby Yacas, Bobby Conn, Billy Eldridge (Michele) and Cory Green (Jessica); six great grandchildren, Jennifer Wiard (Mike), Caitlin Yacas (fiancé DJ), Jaren Eldridge, Elizabeth DeHaven-Green, Matthew Green, and Tyler Green; and one great-great grandchild, Dezmynd Cook; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Conn (Larry); her two remaining sisters, Ila Mae Bradshaw of Iowa and Lucille Davis of Missouri; numerous nieces and nephews; and other family members Eddie and Beck Leighton. We were all very lucky to have had Virginia in our lives.

Virginia was pre deceased by her twin brother Wayne (at birth); her parents, William and Flossie; her brothers, Charles (Bud) and William (Bill); two sisters, Morine and Mary; 7 brothers-in-law and 5 sisters-in-law. She was also pre-deceased by her husband, Lester Conn, and her two sons, Bobby (3 months old), and Larry.

A memorial service will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, September 15, 2016 at Fairfield Friends Church with Pastor Alan Mullikin officiating. Burial of cremains will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, IA.

Memorials in Virginia’s name can be made to Benton Hospice, Monroe Volunteer Fire Department, or the Monroe United Methodist Church.
