Tom Ryland Funkhouser, age 84 of Fairfield, passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at Bethany Life Facility, in Story City.
Visitation for family & friends will be 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm, Saturday, November 11, 2017 at First United Methodist Church.
Funeral Service will be 2:30 pm, Saturday, November 11, 2017 at First United Methodist Church with Reverend Beth Harbaugh officiating.
Burial with Military Honors will be 10:30 am, Monday, November 13, 2017 at Evergreen Cemetery.

Tom was born February 4, 1933, to Herald G. and Joy E. (Tuck) Funkhouser in Pawhuska, OK. He grew up in Fort Madison and graduated from Fort Madison High School. He attended and graduated from the University of Iowa. On September 17, 1961, he married Patricia Ann Sheets. This year they celebrated 56 years of marriage.
Tom served in the Air Force during the Korean War as a radio operator. He and Pat began their married life in England. They also lived in Florida for a year. He lived most of his life in the Fairfield area where he worked as an engineer at Louden and Dexter Companies. He retired from Dexter in 1998. Tom was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Clinton Lodge 15 AF-AM. He enjoyed traveling with the Heritage Club and working on special projects for the family. Tom was a Hawkeye football & basketball fan and liked playing golf. Some of his indoor interests, were doing genealogy on his computer, listening to music and watching old movies. Tom looked forward to spending time with his grandkids and family.
Left to share Tom’s memory are his wife, Pat Funkhouser; his 3 children, Jon (Kim) Funkhouser of Fairfield, IA, Alicia (Craig) Ardoin of Ames, IA and Joy (John) Louk of Cedar Rapids, IA; 10 grandchildren, Joanna, Rachel and Jeremiah Funkhouser, Jordan (Whitney) Funkhouser, Daman (fiancé, Nawal Younis), Jasmine and Maia Ardoin, Kaitlyn (Dana) Bohan, Ann and Mara Louk; 4 great grandchildren, Gracyn, Judah, Rylan and Charlie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herald and Joy Funkhouser; 1 brother, James Funkhouser; and in-laws, Floyd and Wanda Sheets.
