Sue Heston, age 84, of Monroe, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at Pella Regional Health Center in Pella, Iowa. Sue was born on February 3, 1938 in Grapeland, Texas to John L. and Lucy J. (Brimberry) Prestridge. She was raised in Montalba, Texas and graduated from Palestine High School in the class of 1956. She worked at a clothing store in Dallas, Texas while living with her sister, Faye. It was in Dallas where she fell in love with an Air Force man from Iowa, Doyle Heston. During Doyle’s two years in the service overseas, he continued to send endearing letters to Sue. Upon his return, they were married at Montalba Baptist Church on August 10, 1958. The newlyweds moved five miles south of Fairfield, Iowa to the Heston farm where they established their home. They lived on the farm for 30 years where they were blessed with four children: Sherri, Phillip, Mark, and Matthew. In 1988, they moved from the farm into Fairfield where Sue held part-time jobs at Bond Christian Bookstore, 3D Phone Shop, and Fairfield School District – Food Service. In 2004, they retired and moved to Palestine, Texas.
After Doyle’s death in 2005, Sue returned to Fairfield the following year. She was a member of the Fairfield Friends Church in Fairfield, Iowa, and later the First Baptist Church in Monroe, Iowa. Sue spent her life serving others and faithfully spreading God’s love. She was a prolific reader and an avid Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune fan. Sue looked forward to family times which always included game playing such as Scrabble, Duck, Yahtzee, and Skip-Bo, this resulted in lots of laughter and were some of her favorite memories. Her greatest joy was taking care of and being surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Sue is survived by her four children: Sherri (Steve) Aldeman of Iowa City, Iowa, Phil (Cathy) Heston of Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, Mark (Kara) Heston of Ankeny, Iowa, and Matt (Tammy) Heston of Monroe, Iowa; her ten grandchildren: Josh (Stacey) McReynolds of Fairfield, Iowa, Adam (Mandi) McReynolds of Ankeny, Ely Heston of Ankeny, Carter Heston of Florence, Alabama, Abigail Heston of Kansas City, Missouri, Ellie Backes of Ankeny, Alexandra Heston of Ankeny, Libbie Backes of Ankeny, Connor Heston and Courtney Heston of Monroe; her four great-grandchildren: Ethan McReynolds, Ava McReynolds, Nora McReynolds and Zula Backes; and two of her siblings: John Dale Prestridge of New Braunfels, Texas and Margie “Boots” Turner of Sulphur Springs, Texas.
