Shirley Anne Smith

Shirley Anne Smith, age 83 of Birmingham passed away Monday, April 27, 2015 at her home.

Per her wishes she has been cremated.

There will be a visitation for family and friends from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Birmingham Lions Building.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Birmingham Fire Department or Hospice Compassus. Cards and memorials can be mailed to: Howard Smith, 2700 Hwy #1, Birmingham, IA 52535.

Shirley was born February 4, 1932 to James and Matilda (Essary) Wilson in Eldon, Iowa. She married Howard Smith October 2, 1954 in Ottumwa, IA. This last year they celebrated 60 years of marriage.

Shirley lived in Jefferson/Wapello County all her life. She was a teacher for 30 years in the Cardinal Schools District. Some of Shirley’s interests were: crossword puzzles, walking, watching and feeding birds, playing the piano, the outdoors, and especially spending time with her Grandkids and Great Grandkids.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Howard Smith of Birmingham, IA; 3 children, Victoria Riegel of Birmingham, IA, James Smith of WI and Doug Smith of Fairfield, IA; 4 grandchildren, Jason Riegel, Cassie Riegel, Kelsey Smith and Michael Smith; 2 great grandchildren; and one sister Pearle Salter of Clinton, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Matilda Wilson; one brother, Bill Wilson; and one sister, Irma Crow.
