Sharron May Main, 74, went to be with her Lord on Friday, October 12, 2018, after a seven year struggle with illness. Sharron was born December 27, 1943, to Rev. Robert Lee Swanson and Pauline “Peggy” Eloise Gundy Swanson in Bloomington, IL. Growing up as a “Preacher’s Kid” took her to St. Croix Falls, WI, Dubuque, Burlington, Farmington, Ames, Centerville, and finally to Fairfield, IA where she met her loving, faithful husband of 56 years, Jerry Daniel Main.
They were married Friday, June 15, 1962, and lived the next 3 1/2 years in West Des Moines. She was employed at American Mutual Life Insurance Co. in the account billing department. The couple moved to Fairfield in January 1966, where she lived the remainder of her life. Sharron was an active member of Fairfield Church of the Nazarene where she served on the church board, as missionary treasurer, and was the church organist for 50 years. Shortly after becoming the church organist, she took organ lessons herself and began teaching beginning organ students. She was frequently called on to play for funerals which led to her employment at Behner Funeral Home as their Office Manager for 19 years. 1995 through 1996 she served as a clerk in the Iowa House of Representatives. She later worked for Fairfield Community Schools, retiring in 2007. She always considered her primary job was that of a mother of 4, grandmother to 9, and farm wife. In addition to her passion for music she enjoyed ceramics and taught ceramic classes in the basement of her home for several years. Sharron’s love for the Christmas season led to a large collection of Christmas ornaments, especially Christmas trees, some of which remain on display year-round.
Sharron was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Peggy, grandparents, and all of her aunts and uncles.
Survivors include her husband Jerry, and their children, Rondall (Connie) Main of Peculiar, MO, Jonathon (Tina) Main of Oskaloosa, IA, Jennifer (Lance) Howard of Colorado Springs, CO, and Jerod (Ashlee) Main of Blue Springs, MO. Nine grandchildren, McKenna, Dyllan, Madison, Luke, Gage, Grant, Jaxon, Owyn, and Avaree. Her sister Linda (John) DeGroot and brother Kent (Cathy) Swanson of Yukon, OK, along with many loved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
