Sandra Mae Stump

August 9, 1935 — October 16, 2018

Sandra Mae Harrison Stump – loving, wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed away on October 16, 2018 surrounded by her family. Grandchildren (and many others) remember her warm cookies, as many as you could eat, available at every visit. Her children remember her sense of humor, unending patience and laughter.  Her husband remembers her devotion and undying love.

Sandra was born August 9, 1935 near Fairfield, Iowa.  She was orphaned at a young age and raised by relatives and members of the community. In high school she was known as “South Paw Sandra”, the fiery red head with the left-handed hook shot. She met and married Robert Bruce Stump in 1955, with whom she shared 63 years of marriage and had five children. Her life was spent on a farm just south of Libertyville where she loved to garden and cook fantastic meals for her family. Sandra loved to hunt for shells along the Florida gulf coast and visit the Lake of the Ozarks where she spent many family vacations.  She enjoyed hunting turkeys and squirrels in the timber or sitting on her deck birdwatching.  Libertyville Savings Bank employees will remember her enthusiasm for Halloween and the tricks she played on them.

She was patient and cheerful during her declining health and loved the gentle and loving women who helped care for her, the doctors and nurses who managed her chronic conditions and the many friends who shared her life. Sandra always said she had a great life.

Sandra is survived by her husband, Robert Stump, her daughters Susan Stump (Mark Danielson), Jill (Steve) Burnett, Laura (Kerry) Gaston, Amber (Steve) McDowell and son, Shannon (Michelle) Stump.  Also, her grandchildren Noah, Erin and Nate Danielson; Sydney, Colton and Blake Burnett; Miles (Emilee) and Paige Gaston; step grandchildren Kacie (Josh) Wood and Klint McDowell; step great grandchildren Collyns and Colsyn Wood; and by her brother, George Harrison; nephews Jeff (Victoria) and Dan (Rachel) Harrison; niece Sandy (Brant) Quinn, a great niece and 3 great nephews. Sandra was preceded in death by her parents George William and Martha (Burke) Harrison and brother, Dan Harrison.

Per Sandra’s wishes, no formal service will be held.  Memorials are to Faith United Methodist Church of Libertyville, Fairfield Trojan Booster Club, and University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics Foundation, and can be mailed to Jill Burnett, PO Box 265, Libertyville, IA 52567.
