Ruth Wiley Kirchwehm

Ruth W. Kirchwehm age 92, of the Wesley Halcyon House in Washington, Iowa and formerly of Fairfield, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2011 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at Evergreen Cemetery. Following her wishes, her body has been cremated.

In lieu of flowers, Ruth requested memorials be made to First United Methodist Church of Fairfield or to the donor's choice. Memorials may be mailed to the Behner Funeral Home at 203 S. Main St. Fairfield, Iowa 52556.

Ruth W. Kirchwehm was born in Oak Park, Illinois on January 8, 1919 to J. William and Helen Gettle Wiley. She married Harry "Tim" J. Kirchwehm on February 26, 1944 in New Rochelle, New York. He passed away on April 25, 2009 in Washington, Iowa. She received her Teachers Certificate in Special Education at University of Iowa and taught in Clinton, Iowa for 12 years.

She was past President of the Fairfield Women's Club and Jefferson County Health Center Auxilliary, served a 2 year term as an Iowa Mental Health Member and was also a member of the Questers-Antique Organization.

Ruth is survived by 4 grandchildren: Michelle, Julie, Christopher and Matthew, 6 great-grandchildren and a special friend: Barbara Johnston.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Harry "Tim" Kirchwehm, 2 sons: Harry J. Kirchwehm III and Dr. William W. Kirchwehm and 1 brother: George William Wiley.
