Ruth was born in New York City, NY on April 29, 1920, the daughter of Bess and Joe Glatzer. Ruth married the late Morris J. Feldman of Fairfield on March 4, 1943 in Iowa City, Iowa. She is survived by two sons, Joseph J. Feldman (Jill) of Mill Valley, CA and Gerald M. “Mike” Feldman (Janis Maxwell) of Denton, MD, and two grandsons, Joshua J. Feldman of Mill Valley, CA and Jacob Lee Feldman of Boulder, CO. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, one sister (Mildred) and her husband (Morris). He passed away in 1980.

Ruth grew up in New York City loving tap dancing and acrobatics. However, at age 13, she contracted polio, resulting in paralysis of both of her legs and right arm. She was admitted to the Warms Springs, GA Rehabilitation Center for treatment. While in Warm Springs for treatment, she met President Franklin D. Roosevelt and a fellow patient who would later become her husband, Morris Feldman.

During her years in Fairfield, Ruth never allowed her disability to get in the way of living life. She was active in many community and public service activities. She served as the President of the Women’s Division of Parsons College Board, the Community Concert Board, the Red Cross Board, the Town and Gown Board and three consecutive six-year elected terms on the Jefferson County Hospital Board. Ruth also collected antiques, and loved bridge, music and politics. As one of the few Jewish persons in the Fairfield area, during the holiday season, she would make a presentation to the Washington Elementary School about the story, meaning and practice of the holiday Chanukah.
