Roy Wesley Goettsche

Roy Wesley Goettsche age 78 of Fairfield, passed away Friday, October 21, 2016 at his home.

Visitation for family and friends will be 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at Behner Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be 10:30 am, Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Richland Methodist Church with Pastor Harlan Frosty VanVoorst and Pastor Tim Schoepf officiating. Following the service, he will be cremated. Private burial of cremains will be at a later date.

In-lieu of flowers, memorials will be to Serve Outdoors. Cards and memorials can be left at the funeral home.

Roy was born March 27, 1938 to Konrad and Malinda (Mangels) Goettsche in Davenport, IA. He married M. Karen Thys September 27, 1957 and they lived in Richland. She passed away April 11, 1971. June 7, 1980 Roy married Esther Fay (Prevett) Hutton and they made their home in Fairfield.

Roy worked for 35 years at Iowa Malleable and 10 years at Dexter before he retired. In his retirement he enjoyed his weekly coffee club. Roy was a member of the Elks and was on a bowling league for many years. He enjoyed doing woodworking, going hunting with his shotgun or bow, and restoring antique tractors. Some of Roy’s favorite times were relaxing on the river and spending time with his grandchildren.

Roy is survived by his wife, Esther Goettsche of Fairfield, IA; his children, Daniel Goettsche of Fairfield, IA, Andrea (David) Crow of Winfield, MO, Doris Kay Hutton of Indianola, IA, Andrea (Mark) Hagist of Ottumwa, IA and Marcy (Michael) Murphy of Brighton, IA; 7 grandchildren, Ron Fosdyck, Logan Crow, Ryan Hagist, Caleb Watson, Lydia Watson, Alexandrea Murphy and Maya Murphy; one great grandson, Hayden Roy Fosdyck; one brother, Leonard Goettsche of Mt. Pleasant, IA; and one sister, Lois Meredith of Columbia, MO.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Konrad and Malinda Goettsche; his stepmother, Faye Goettsche; his 1st wife, M. Karen Goettsche; one daughter, LuAnn Goettsche; one grandson, Ethan Roy Murphy; one brother, Charles Goettsche; one sister, Caroline Archer; and one infant brother, Konrad Goettsche.
