Robert W. “Bob” Brown age 95 of Fairfield, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2020, at his home.
Due to the CDC guidelines and out of respect for the family, there will be a private family service held at the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Beth Harbaugh officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
Celebration of Life for Bob will be at a later date.
In-lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church and mailed to Bettye Brown, 400 South 33rd Street, Fairfield, Iowa 52556.
Bob was born March 10, 1925, in Fairfield to Ralph and Hannah Brown. He married Bettye Rose Hisel on December 24, 1945 in Fairfield.
Bob graduated from Fairfield High School and attended 4 years at Parsons College. He was in the US Army Air Corp during WWII with the 8th Air Force Europe stationed in England. He flew in a B24 as a Tail Gunner with the 491st Bomb Group. He was the last of the squadron to pass away. Bob worked for 40 years at Jefferson Motor Company as an accountant. He was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church and served on various church committees. He was also a member of the Howard Johnson Coffee Club, Elks, VFW, and Couples Bridge Club for 50 plus years. He enjoyed golfing with his friends. Bob had a good sense of humor and was a practical joker. He and Bettye would go to Texas in the winter and when he was able, he liked to go camping in Colorado and hiking with his family. Bob was Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeye fan and would enjoy watching college basketball and football. He took great pride in keeping his yard well groomed, gardening and would keep bird feed out for the birds. Most important to Bob was his family and enjoyed following their activities and sharing their interests.
He will be missed by his wife of 74 years Bettye Brown of Fairfield; his children, Ronald (Sharon) Brown, Nancy Huff, Barbara (Joe) McLarney, Phil (Cindy) Brown and Doug (LuAnne) Brown; 11 grandchildren, Mike, Samantha, Kara, Benjamin, Ryan, Shawn, Jennifer, Amanda, Kellan, McKensey and Tyler; 15 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Hannah Brown; his siblings, Ruth Smith, Jim Brown, Lola Brown, Burnell Brown, Dale Brown, Violet Liston and Louise Johnson; and son-in-law, Phil Huff.
