Robert "Bob" Nelson

Robert “Bob” Nelson, age 92 of Fairfield, passed away Friday, November 27, 2015 at Sunny Brook Living Care Center.

Private family service will be 10:30 am, Monday, November 30, 2015 at Behner Funeral Home with Father Nick Adam officiating. Burial with military rites will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

Bob was born December 1, 1922 in Stockport, IA to Arthur and Elizabeth (Booker) Nelson. He married Shirley Mae Black on June 9, 1962 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fairfield. She passed away January 9, 2011.

Bob served in the Army during WWII. He worked at Loudens as a welder for 43 years until he retired in 1988. Bob was a member of Knights of Columbus, Eagles, and VFW. He enjoyed playing the harmonica and building things. Bob enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren the most.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Betty (Jeremy) Howard of Libertyville, IA; one daughter – in – law, Rhonda Nelson of Chariton, Iowa; 6 grandchildren, Rose Nelson, Amanda Dunphy, Kaye Nelson, Emma Nelson, Turner Howard and Sydney Howard; 3 step-grandchildren, Josh Perkins, Tyler Perkins and Kassie Howard; two great grandchildren, Samuel Dunphy and Aaliyah Morgan; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Elizabeth Nelson; his wife, Shirley Nelson; one son, Roy Nelson; one sister, Gladys Crandall; and one brother, Frank Nelson.
