Robert LeRoy Horras

Robert LeRoy Horras, age 84 of Fairfield, passed away Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Oaks Assisted Living, Fairfield, IA.

Per his wishes he has been cremated. There will be a Graveside memorial service, 11:00 am, Monday, March 23, 2015 at Richland Friends Cemetery, with Pastor Ed Parker officiating.

In lieu of flowers a memorial can be made to Glenwood State Hospital. Cards and memorials can be mailed to: Wayne Horras, 1226 Wapello-Keokuk Road, Hedrick, IA 52563.

Robert LeRoy Horras was born August 24, 1930 at his home in Richland to Richard and Margaret (Reed) Horras. He married Kathleen Mae Bray April 6, 1950 in Rock Island, IL. This last year they celebrated 64 years of marriage.

Robert graduated from Richland High School with the class of 1948. He lived all his life in the Richland and Fairfield area. Robert drove for Tristate Motor Transit and Dickey Transport. He worked at each company for 18 years. He also helped his son Wayne with farming but always felt most comfortable driving a semi. Robert received several 1,000,000 safe driver awards. He enjoyed motorcycling, car racing, gospel concerts and spending time with family and friends.

Robert is survived by his wife, Kathleen Horras; 6 children, Linda (Joe) Leu of Iowa City, IA, Wayne (Sylvia) Horras of Hedrick, IA, Richard Horras of Glenwood, IA, Brenda Horras of Glenwood, IA, Cathy (Kraig) Deutsch of Packwood, IA and Angeline (Matt) Gockel of Waverly, IA; 11 grandchildren, Dustin (Carly) Horras, Heather (Mike) Link, Heidi (Ben) Fincham, Brandi (Steven) Baker, Brooke (Zach) Streva, MacKenzie (Jarod) Strouf, Tyler (Chieko) Horras, Trenton Mathias, Hana (Zachary) Morris, Monica (Andrew) Steckel and Erica Johnston; 13 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Catherine (Joe) Millane, Mary Hoekstra, and Carol (Richard) Greene; and one brother, Richard (Karen) Horras.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Jay Horras.
