Ralph Edward Smith

Ralph E. Smith, age 84, of Fairfield, IA, passed away suddenly, early Monday, March 23, 2009 at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield.

Family visitation will be held 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM, Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Funeral services will be held in Germanville, IA, Thursday, March 26, 2006 at Hope Lutheran Church at 10:30 AM, with Pastor Scott Bieker officiating. Interment will follow in Hope Lutheran Cemetery in Germanville.

Ralph Edward Smith was born November 12, 1924 in Lockridge, IA to James B. and Mary (Coady) Smith. He lived all his life in Jefferson County, and was a farmer most of his life. Ralph was united in marriage with Evelyn Rebling on July 13, 1947. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Germanville.

Ralph is survived by Evelyn, his wife of 62 years, and his son, Harold Smith and wife Colleen of Fairfield, IA. Ralph was blessed with two grandchildren: Tiffany Warner and husband Cory, and Heather Mercer and husband Matt; as well as three great-grandchildren. Survivors include his sister, Doris McCarty and her husband Don of Salem, IA.

Preceding him in death are his parents, son Doug Smith; two brothers and one sister: Bernard Smith, Leonard Smith, and Kathryn Gilson.
