Obituary

Neil Brooks Cunningham, born August 8, 1939, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, passed away on May 23rd in Fairfield, Iowa.

Neil was a longtime resident of Fairfield, having moved there to be part of the Transcendental Meditation community. He divided his time between Fairfield and New York City, where he had been a member of The Actors Studio since 1972.

Lee Strasberg and Maharishi were Neil’s most influential teachers. A talented furniture designer, Neil operated Central Park Home Furnishings on the Fairfield square while also pursuing his acting career.

Neil had a deep love for community, creativity, and connection, and he touched the lives of many through his warmth, artistry, and presence.

He leaves behind his wife, Ellen Chenoweth; daughter, Anila Cunningham and her partner, Jaime Thatcher; his beloved grand-dog, Miso; and many devoted friends.

The family would also like to thank the aides and nurses at Prestige Care Center, EveryStep Hospice, and Jefferson County Health Center for the exceptional care and support they provided.
