Mildred I. Edmund age 100, of Fairfield, Iowa died December 25, 2020, at Sunnybrook Assisted Living in Fairfield.
A Celebration of Life Service will be at a later date with burial at New Sweden Lutheran Cemetery north of Lockridge, Iowa.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, Fairfield or the New Sweden Cemetery Maintenance Fund.
Mildred I. Thatcher Edmund was born March 2, 1920, in Washington County, Iowa, the daughter of Royal E. and Maud (Shrader) Thatcher. She grew up in Washington County; she attended rural schools and graduated from Kalona High School in 1938; she attended University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, Iowa, where she earned her school teaching certificate. She taught in the rural schools of Washington County, Iowa. On June 23, 1942, she married Lewis “Park” Edmund.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fairfield; a member of the American Baptist Women’s Mission; a member of Fairfield Lions Club; and a member of the Jefferson County Hospital Auxiliary. She was employed in the Fairfield Community as a secretary for over fifty years, twenty-five having been with a local law firm.
Surviving are her son, Mark R. Edmund (Kay Edmund) of Polk City, IA; two granddaughters, Sonya Rae Edmund of Polk City, IA, Alison Christine Edmund (Chris Ahart) of Makanda, IL; one grandson, Aaron Bradley Edmund (Ashley Edmund) of Burnsville, MN; and two great-grandsons, Cruz Edmund and Isaac Edmund of Burnsville, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Royal and Maud; husband, Lewis “Park” Edmund; two brothers, Fred E. Thatcher of Marion, IA and John E. Thatcher of Springfield, Missouri; and two sisters, Edna Witthoft of Washington, IA and Ruth Bell of Iowa City, Iowa.
