Funeral services were held 10:30 AM, Monday, January 16, 2006 at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield. Rev. Traverce Harrison officiated. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery.

Mildred Bernice Carter was born March 19, 1910 in Jefferson County Iowa, the daughter of Emery W. and Hermie (Moore) Carter. She lived most of her life in the Fairfield community, graduating from Fairfield High School in the Class of 1927. Mildred attended Ft. Madison Business College in Ft. Madison, IA and worked as a legal secretary in Ft. Madison for two years. Returning to Fairfield, she was employed for 43 years as a legal secretary with the Jordan Law Office. Mildred also kept records and served as treasurer for the Fairfield Evergreen Cemetery Association for more than 40 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fairfield.

Survivor include two nieces and their families: Darlene Sutherlin and husband Bob of Anchorage, Alaska and Marilyn Hiatt of Fairfield, IA, 10 great-nieces and -nephews: Jim Hiatt of Fairfield, Linda von Wiesenthal of Cypress, TX, Margaret Schneider of Lenexa, KY, Marcia Wagner of Burlington, IA, Jeff Sutherlin of Seattle, WA, and Mark Sutherlin, Steve Sutherlin, Sherri Sutherlin, Kathy Sutherlin, and Jon Sutherlin, all of Anchorage, Alaska.

Mildred was predeceased by her parents, sister M. Irene Hiatt, nephew Bruce Hiatt and niece, Evaughn Hiatt.
