Melvin Joe Blough passed away on January 21, 2021, at his home. He was 70 years old. Melvin was born March 3, 1950, at the Jefferson County Hospital to Cora Mae (Nichols) Blough and Melvin Joe Blough. Melvin attended Fairfield School District and graduated with the Class of 1968. He then attended the University of Iowa and graduated in 1972 with a BA degree in English.
Melvin was an avid, longtime Iowa Hawkeye Fan- especially Iowa football and he held season football tickets for many years and he was also a longtime member of The University of Iowa I Club. Traveling to California to watch the Hawkeyes play in the Rose Bowl and in the Holiday Bowl were special memories for Melvin. From his van, he would proudly play the Iowa Fight Song on game days. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends, watching football, lounging in his pool, and on occasion playing a round of golf. He collected Hawkeye buttons and pins, ashtrays, and matchbooks. Melvin was honored by the Elks Lodge as Officer of the Year and Member of the Year.
Melvin owned and operated The Main Gate Bar, managed The Fairfield Golf and Country Club, bartended at the Elks Lodge, and worked at Coender' s Flowers.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Fairfield Elks Lodge, and the Walton Club.
He is survived by his cousin Richard Blough. No service is planned.
An open visitation will be held at Behner Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 27 from 5 - 7. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Fairfield Elks Lodge #1192, P.O. Box 365, Fairfield, Iowa or The Walton Club, 2265 Walton Lake Drive, Fairfield, Iowa.
