Lyle R. Speas age 84 of Fairfield, passed away May 17, 2013 at Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.
Memorial Services will be at 11:00 am Wednesday May 22, 2013 at Behner Funeral Home with Pastor Danny Cary officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetary.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 10:00 to 11:00 prior to the service.
According to his wishes his body has been cremated.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society or Relay for Life. Cards and memorials can be sent to 909 So. 7th St., Fairfield, Iowa 52556.
Lyle R. Speas was born June 24, 1928 to David and Georgia Friend Speas in Barnes City, Iowa. He married Marilyn Hanna on April 15, 1965 in Memphis, Missouri.
Lyle graduated from Montezuma High School class of 1947. He has lived in the Fairfield area since 1955. Lyle worked for Universal Producing Company and Conrad American for many years. After retirement he worked for Pinkerton Security at Meritor and transported vehicles for Smithburg Automotive and T&T Auto. He served in the US Air Force as a staff sergeant in the occupational forces European Theater during the Korean conflict. His hobbies and interests include attending and being involved with youth sports, coaching and participating in fast pitch softball and bowling. Lyle was a member of Fairfield VFW #2271 and American Legion Post #47.
Lyle is survived by his wife Marilyn Speas of Fairfield, 3 sons, 1 daughter and their families, Steven (Lori), Byers of Batavia, IA, Barbara (Jerry) Droz of Fairfield, IA, David (Diana) Speas of Batavia, IA, and Douglas (Britany) Speas of Camas, WA, 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 1 sister Mildred Moitzfield of Detroit Lakes, MN and many nieces and nephews.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother Max Speas, 1 sister Lela Simpson, and 1 grandson Joshua Speas.
