She was born February 15, 1932 at Keosauqua, Iowa, the fourth of six children to Earnest and Lena (Kreiss)DeHart. Raised in the Keosauqua area, Lou graduated from Keosauqua High School in 1950. After high school, she became a clerk typist for Freeport Motor Casualty in Des Moines, Iowa. While living in Des Moines, Lou met John D. Turner, a truck driver for Des Moines Ice and Fuel. They were united in marriage on October 23, 1953 and were happily married for 58 years before John's death on March 8, 2012. They were blessed to have two children, Susan Renee and Martin Dee.

Lou and John resided in Des Moines for several years. Lou was a stay-at-home mom, taking care of their family while her husband was a short-haul truck driver. She enjoyed baking, puzzles and taking care of the garden. Lou and John spent weekend evenings playing cards with friends and family.

Lou belonged to the auxiliary and had designed an award-winning scrapbook for their state competition. Lou and John enjoyed playing BINGO and 31 with friends.

Lou moved to Pella in April, 2013 to be closer to family. Living at Vriendschap Village, she enjoyed coffee time, games, cards, and the many, many friends who became her extended family. She could be counted on to help with various activities in the Village and she enjoyed working in the Village library.

Her family includes her daughter Susan (Randy) Martin of Pella and her son Martin (Tammy) Turner of Des Moines; three grandchildren: Michelle Jakubiak, Robin (Bryan) Llewellyn, and Ryan Martin; five great-grandchildren: Mason and Helaina Jakubiak, Lillian Knapp and Hazel and Baby Llewellyn (August), all of Pella; three siblings: Dorothy Keller of Belton, Missouri; Ron DeHart of Glendale, Arizona; and Carol Edmonston of Des Moines, Iowa.
