Lucille “Lucy” Gaudet age 75 of Coralville, IA died Thursday, June 10, 2021, at University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics.
Visitation for family & friends will be 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 26, 2021, at Behner Funeral Home, Fairfield, IA. Celebration will follow starting at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jim Cecil officiating. Inurnment will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery by Martinsburg, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family to be distributed to organizations that were important to Lucy. Cards and memorials may be mailed to Brenda Gordley, 1510 Sadler Drive., North Liberty, Iowa 52317 with checks made out to Lucile Gaudet Memorial or through Venmo @Lucille-Gaudet-Memorial.
Lucy was born June 24, 1945, in Liberty Township, Hamilton County, Iowa to Raymond “Neil” and Murriel (Keller) Pampel. She married Bob Gaudet Nov. 29,1969 in Gretna, LA. He died Dec 30, 1977.
Lucy enjoyed nursing, collecting antique glassware, baking, and helping others. In her youth, she played saxophone, participated in choir, and was active in 4-H. She competed at the regional level of 4-H in speech competitions.
She earned a Bachelor of Nursing from University of Iowa (1967).
She joined the Commissioned Corps of U.S. Public Health Service. She completed a nursing externship at the U.S. Marine Hospital in Seattle, WA. She transferred to the U.S. Public Health Service Hospital in New Orleans, LA . She achieved the rank of Lieutenant during the Vietnam War for stateside service.
Lucy was active in the New Orleans Chapter of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses holding several offices. She assisted in authoring several articles for the organization’s She was a Board-Certified Critical Care Nurse.
In the New Orleans area, she worked at Touro Infirmary, Children’s Clinic (Gretna), and Meadowcrest Hospital.
She volunteered in Gretna, LA at St. Anthony Church/School, St. Joseph, and St. Cletus. She was active in Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts as parent leader.
In 1988, she took a position at the VA Hospital in Iowa City, IA. She remained in the Iowa City area. She was active with Iowa City Hospice as a Hospice Nurse (1990’s).
After her nursing career, she worked part time as a Job Coach for Goodwill Industries, and as a “secret shopper” with various businesses helping to improve customer service.
Lucy is survived by her children, Brenda (Scott) Gordley, Brian (Tanya) Gaudet and Byron (Christine) Gaudet all of North Liberty, IA; 4 grandchildren, Jalen Gaudet, Avery Gaudet, Austin Gordley, and Blake Gordley; two sisters, Karen Krumboltz of Fairfield,IA, and Thelma (Gene) Berg of Baton Rouge, LA; two aunts, Evelyn Cunningham of Kansas City, MO and Ruby (Ralph) Hansen of Chariton, IA; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, Neil and Murriel; husband, Bob Gaudet; and brother-in-law, Thomas Krumboltz.
