Leona Maye Welch

Leona Maye Welch age 91 of West Branch died June 28, 2016 at Crestview Specialty Care in West Branch, IA.

A private graveside memorial service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, IA with Pastor John McDonald officiating.

Leona was born March 15, 1925 in Richland, IA, daughter of Lowell and Mattie Talley Lake. She attended school in Richland, IA and graduated in 1944. Leona married Hubert Hoskins in September 23, 1944. They later divorced and she married Donald Welch.

Leona worked in various departments at Easters and Hy-Vee. She was an avid Hawkeye football and basketball fan. She enjoyed purchasing antiques and then would resell them. Most important, was spending time with her kids and grandkids.

Survivors include sons Gary and wife Kathy Hoskins of Iowa City, IA, Jim and Gwen Hoskins of Fairfield, IA; her daughter, Lugene and Russell Jackson of LaPorte, CO; 4 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and one brother, Frank Lake of Fort Worth, TX.

She was preceded in death by her second husband, Donald Welch; her parents, Lowell or Mattie Lake; two brothers, Lorell and Everett Lake; two sisters, Eva Reighard and Blanch Blanding; one daughter, Charlene Ibbotson; one son-in-law, John Ibbotson.
