Kenneth Gilbert McGuire

Kenneth Gilbert McGuire, age 84, of Fairfield passed away May 22, 2019, at Jefferson County Health Center.

Visitation for family & friends will be 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 31, 2019 , at Word of Life Lutheran Church.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 1, 2019 , at Word of Life Lutheran Church with Pastor Chris Fiske officiating.  Burial with military honors will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

In-lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Word of Life Lutheran Church, Every Step Hospice or Lords Cupboard.  Cards and memorials may be mailed to 510 East Washington, Fairfield, Iowa 52556.

Kenneth Gilbert McGuire was born in Columbus Junction, Iowa.  The son of Milton I. and Dollie (Killebrew) McGuire.  He married Marilyn Bekel March 3, 1957, at Hope Lutheran Church. This year they celebrated 62 years of marriage.

Kenneth graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1952.  He served in the US Army during the Korean War.  Kenneth farmed in the Germanville area, worked 17 years at American Chain & Cable and 18 years at Co-op Supply .

Kenneth was a member and one of the founding elders of the Word of Life Lutheran Church.

Kenneth was a member and one of the founding elders of the Word of Life Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Korean Veterans Association, The American Legion Post 47 and Army 7th Infantry Division Association.  Kenneth served on the Jefferson County Extension Committee and Jefferson County Soil Conservation Board.

Kenneth enjoyed woodworking and made many pieces of furniture for all the family from the lumber from the farm.  He loved being with family, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Fairfield; three daughters Pam McWhirter and husband Steve of Maple Plain, MN, Linda Dimmitt and husband Rusty of Fairfield, Phyllis Figueira and husband P.J. of New Castle, CO; one son, Michael McGuire and wife Kimberly of Marion, IA; 10 grandchildren, Dennis (Andreana) Miller Jr., Jacob (Ashley) Dimmitt, Zachary (Kate) Dimmitt, Joshua Dimmitt (Morgan Brim), Ashley Coop (Tyler Tews), Megan (Matt) Wheeler, Sean (Michele) McWhirter, Heather (Justin) Guler, Sarah McGuire and Keara McGuire; and 9 great grandchildren.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Velma’ and grandson, Steven Paul Figueira.
