Keith William Smutz

Keith William Smutz, age 97, of Fairfield, passed away Friday, November 17, 2017, at Sunnybrook Living Care Center.

A visitation for family & friends will be 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Tuesday, November 21, 2017, at Behner Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at Behner Funeral Home with Frosty VanVoorst and Nathan Tabelisma officiating. Following the service, he will be cremated. Burial will be at a later date at Fell Cemetery, Libertyville, IA.

Keith was born May 3, 1920, in Hillsboro area to Harley Francis and Ellen Mae (King) Smutz. He married Lillie Elizabeth Lewis on August 18, 1940, in Libertyville. They celebrated 58 years of marriage before she passed away on January 2, 1999.

Keith farmed all his life. After he retired from farming he started doing wood working and would make things for family and friends. Keith collected John Deere memorabilia, played cards and was a Hawkeye fan. He liked teasing and have a good time.

Left to share Keith’s memories are his children, Karen (Kenneth) Whitham of Fairfield, IA, Diana (Dave) Huff of Libertyville, IA; 5 grandchildren, Steve (Kim) Whitham, Scott (Kibben) Whitham, Mike (Kelley) Whitham, Brenda (Michael) Pope, David (Angie) Smutz; two step grandchildren, David (Heather) Huff and Dana (Andy) Freymark; 10 great grandchildren; 5 step great grandchildren; and two siblings, Erma (Glen) Dimmitt and Wendall (Shirley) King both of Fairfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harley and Ellen; his wife, Lillie; two sons, Lyle and Darrell; one daughter-in-law, Mary; one granddaughter, Ashley Whitham; and one great great grandson, Asher Smutz.
