John Arthur Copeland Sr.

John Arthur Copeland Sr. age 87 of Fairfield, passed away Monday, August 2, 2021, at his home.

Visitation for family & friends will be 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 9, 2021 at Behner Funeral Home.  Funeral service will follow starting at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Danny Cary officiating.  Burial with Military Honors will follow the service at Evergreen Cemetery.  Lunch will be served at the Nazarene Center following the graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Compassus and mailed to Linda Copeland, 1101 East Jefferson Ave., Fairfield, Iowa 52556.

John was born July 3, 1934, in Fairfield to John Clifford and Ruth Neuberry (Downey) Copeland.  He married Mary Helen Cary on June 13, 1957, at the Foursquare Church.  They were married 47 years before she passed away on December 1, 2004.

John served in the Air Force at the end of the Korean War and was stationed for 4 years in Germany.  He worked at Rockwell International for 25 years.  John enjoyed doing woodworking, listening to Country and Gospel music, trains and collected old car and tractor banks.  John was a pilot and also enjoyed putting model planes together.

John will be missed by his children, John (Vickie) Copeland of Ft. Myers, FL, Julia (Gayle) Williams of McPherson, KS, David (Becky) Copeland of Carroll, OH, Denise Filson of Weston, FL and Linda Munzer of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; 12 grandchildren, Mark Copeland, Bryan Copeland, Adam Williams, Brandon Williams, Justin Filson, Alyse Copeland, Lauren Purtee, Nathan Copeland, Ryan Copeland, Eric Munzer, Daniel Munzer and Nicole Munzer; 8 great grandchildren; his siblings, Carrol Copeland, Darrell Copeland, Bernice Thompson, Carolyn Pool, Rita Copeland all of Fairfield, Larry Copeland of Libertyville, Donna Vice of Agency, IA, and Rosalie Rodgers of Ottumwa; and many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Ruth; wife, Mary; and his brother, Wayne.
