John Frederick Birchfield

August 1, 1949 — June 12, 2018

John Frederick Birchfield, age 68 of Fairfield, passed away June 12, 2018, at Jefferson County Health Center.

Graveside service will be 12:30 pm, Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at Iowa Veterans Cemetery, 34024 Veterans Memorial Dr, Adel, IA with Chaplin Dick Terp officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warriors of America. Cards and memorials may be sent to 417 North F Street, Apt B, Fairfield, Iowa 52556.

John was born August 1, 1949 in Minoa, New York to James Griesaber and Janet Crawford.  He married Diane Williams on April 28, 1992.

John served and retired from the Army after 25 years as a military policeman.  He moved back to Fairfield in 2009.  Some of John’s interests were watching western movies, following the Greenbay Packers football, collecting military hats, reading his bible and he loved his cat “Kitty”.  John will greatly be missed by family & friends.

Left to share John’s memories are his wife, Diane of Fairfield; his children, Michael (Kelly) Birchfield of Charleston, SC, John (Joni) Birchfield of Marshalltown, IA, Donna (Jon) Dummond of Biloxi, MS, Shelly, Russel, Jennifer and Franklin; 15 grandchildren, Alex, Kevin, Logan, Kylie, Jonah, Judah, Jesse, Spencer, Josie, Hunter, Holden, Hesten, Caleb, Matthew and Mila.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
