James A. Egan, Jr., 79, a resident of Fairfield, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2026 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

     A private Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mary Catholic Church in Fairfield with burial at Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield is caring for Jim and his family.

     Jim was born June 7, 1947 in Fords, New Jersey, the son of James, Sr. and Ethel (Tatarka) Egan. He married Barbara Egan, November 29, 1969 in Fairfield. She preceded him in death, October 18, 2018.

     Jim was a certified public accountant, owning and operating Egan & Mangold P.C. in West Plains, Missouri. He sold his business in 2000. Jim’s great loves in life were his wife, Barbara, his children and grandchildren, and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Jim was a kind and generous spirit giving in his time, treasure and talent.

     Those left to honor his memory include his children, Laura Egan of Laguna Hills, California, Michael (Coleen) Egan of Rock Island, Illinois, Thomas (Chelsea) Egan of Cross Timbers, Missouri, and David (Kimberly) Egan of Columbia, Missouri; grandchildren, Dana, Christen, Avery, Audrey, Samuel, Sean, and Quinn; and sisters, Kathy, Nancy, and Janice.

     In addition to his wife, Jim was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant daughter, Dana.
