Irma Mae Nelson Skaggs age 94 passed away July 19, 2020, at her home in Birmingham.
Open visitation will be 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 22, 2020, at Behner Funeral Home
Public Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 23, 2020, at Maple Hill Cemetery with Pastor Phil Campbell officiating.
A Celebration of Irma’s life will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital. Cards and memorials may be mailed to Janet Manning, 824 55th Street, West Des Moines, IA 50266.
Irma was born May 2, 1926, in Fairfield to Vern and Neva (Davisson) Nelson. She married Howard Grant Skaggs on July 4, 1944, at First Methodist Church in Fairfield. They celebrated 71 years of marriage before he passed away July 11, 2015.
Irma was an Avon Representative for 57 years. She won Avon’s Women of Enterprise Award in 1994. Besides her customers who bought Avon she would go to flea markets and set up her Avon display. Most important to Irma was spending time with her kids, grandkids and great grand kids. She was an avid sports fan for her kids and grandkids activities. Irma also enjoyed playing cards.
Irma will be missed by her 4 children, Linda Davidson of Birmingham, IA, Marsha McDonald of Norwalk , IA, Janet (Dave) Manning of West Des Moines, IA, Randy (Melinda) Skaggs of Danville, IL; 10 Grandchildren, Anita Corry, Holly Boyd, Rusty Davidson, Kylie Whitecotton, Casey Blancett, Alex Manning, Mitchell McDonald, Samantha Kitchen, Mariah Hird and Ravyn Skaggs; 16 Great-Grandchildren; 4 Great-Great Grandchildren; and her siblings, Verna Baccus of Los Alamitos, CA and Harold (Wayne) Nelson of Keokuk, IA
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard Skaggs; daughter, Sharon Diane; and son-in-law, Stanley Davidson.
