Floyd Raymond Laughlin, age 85 passed away comfortably in his sleep at Good Samaritan Hospice Care in Ottumwa on May 8, 2019.
A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at the Assembly of God Church in Eldon with Pastors John and Mary Cooper. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10:00-10:30. Burial of cremains will follow the service at Mt. Moriah Cemetery near Douds.

Floyd was born October 27, 1933 to Lester Himan Laughlin and Sarah Martha Liles Laughlin. He married Marion Jean Rusk on December 28, 1954 in Eldon, Iowa. He served in the Army between 1953 and 1955 as a Linesman in El Paso, TX. They had three children, Marie Donna (Mike) Hummell of Eldon, Donald Michael Laughlin (companion, Jamie) of Fairfield, and Patricia Ann (Glen) Pettit of McPherson, KS, and beloved daughter-in-law, Tina Kelley-Laughlin.
Floyd farmed near Douds and raised cattle and hogs. He worked at Chain and Cable in Fairfield for 23 years and enjoyed all the friends he made.
He and his daughter, Marie and husband had a dairy for a number of years. Floyd drove a school bus for Van Buren County Schools. He had Floyds Repair in Douds. His motto was, “Can fix everything but the crack of dawn.” He was the kind of friend everyone would like to have.
Floyd greatly enjoyed restoring antique tractors and sharing his knowledge of how to do it with others. He enjoyed forging, and teaching this trade to his grandchildren.
Floyd will be missed by his wife, Jean, 3 children, Marie, Donald and Pat; 9 grandchildren, Mike, Luke and, Katie Hummel, Chris, Dillon and Ryan Laughlin, Eric and Justin Pettit. 7 great grandchildren, 4 siblings, Frances and Howard Leasure of Princeton, MO, Stanley and Phyllis Laughlin of Fairfield, Ester and Larry Crow of Eldon, Mickey and Bill Lunsford of Birmingham. He has extended family that will miss, as well as many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, Charley Talbot and a granddaughter, Denise Laughlin.
The family wishes to thank the Good Samaritan Home and VA Hospital and Staff for their care and support.
