Eva Marie Johnston

Eva Marie Johnston, age 86 of Fairfield, passed away March 31, 2016 at Parkview Care Center.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30-10:30 am, Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Behner Funeral Home & Crematory in Fairfield.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Behner Funeral Home & Crematory with Pastor Danny Cary officiating. Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery, Birmingham, IA.

Eva was born August 23, 1929 in Birmingham, IA to Clementine and Ina (Dille) Hootman. She was raised by her grandparents Edwin and Sarah Dille. Eva married Kenneth L. Johnston November 23, 1950. He passed away July 12, 1984

Eva graduated from Birmingham High School with the class of 1948. She lived in Van Buren or Jefferson County all her life. Eva taught for two years at Spencer and Winchester Country Schools. She later worked at Fairfield Glove until she retired. Eva liked to crochet pot holders and hot pads, play cards, do ceramics and do jig saw puzzles.

Eva is survived by her daughter, Dorothy (Gary) Henson of Fairfield, IA; 5 grandchildren, Tammy (Steve) Orte, Chris (Casey) Johnston, Amanda Johnston, Kyle Henson and Jodi Henson; 10 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Sharon Potter-Johnston of Libertyville, IA; two sisters, Eileen (Elwood) Losey of Mt. Pleasant, IA and Elna Greenfield of Birmingham, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

Eva was preceded in death by her parents, Clementine and Ina Hootman; her grandparents, Edwin and Sarah Dille; her husband, Kenneth Johnston; one son, Michael Johnston; two sisters, Reva Dossett and Shirrell Dowd; and 7 brothers, Harold, Dean, Keith, Donovan, Rex, Verle and Ray Hootman.
