Esther S. Plum age 96 of Fairfield, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at Addington Place.
Esther was born September 16, 1925, in Story County, IA to Osmund and Ada (Wicks) Helgeland. She married Bruce Eldon Plum in Ames, Iowa on March 2,1951. They were blessed to have 60 years of marriage before he passed away on September 18, 2011.
Esther graduated from McCallburg High School (Story County Public High School) in 1943. She worked for 10 years as Jefferson County Clerk.
Esther was one of the founding members of the Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered at the Bargin Box for 30 years. She was also a member of the Women’s Club and Ruth Circle of United Methodist Church.
Esther was an avid bridge player. She learned at the age of 92 how to play Wii Bowling and was very competitive. She and Bruce traveled all around the world. Esther enjoyed crocheting and reading.
She will be missed by her two sons, Lloyd (Ardeth) Plum and Stan (Debi) Plum; 6 grandchildren, Allison Bonato-Garcia, Jennifer Plum, Leslie Plum, LJ Plum III, Kristin Perantoni and Dawn Martin; 10 great grandchildren; and one sister, Sue Gould.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents, Osmund and Ada, and her husband, Bruce.
A celebration of life will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 8, 2022, at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Al Coffin officiating. Following the service will be a luncheon.
