Erik Peter Smithburg, age 37 of Fairfield passed away, Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at his home in Fairfield, IA.

Visitation for family and friends will be 5:00-8:00 PM, Friday, July 10, 2015 at Word of Life Lutheran Church, Fairfield, IA.

Funeral services will be 10:30AM, Saturday, July 11, 2015 at Word of Life Lutheran Church, 2092 Libertyville Road, Fairfield, IA with Pastor Chris Fiske officiating. Burial will be New Sweden Lutheran Cemetery, Lockridge, IA.

In – lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family for his “Kids Education Fund”. Cards and memorials can be mailed to: Megan Smithburg, 2604 Ivy Ave., Fairfield, IA 52556.

Erik was born February 23, 1978 to Dennis and Carolyn (Kinyon) Smithburg in Fairfield, IA. He married Megan Pohren February 16, 2002.

Erik worked for 17 years at Fairfield Castings Co. as a pattern designer/machinist. Some of his hobbies/interest were fishing, hunting, racing, wrestling, football, enjoyed coaching baseball, and an avid Cardinals fan. The most important was spending time with his kids.

Erik is survived by his wife, Megan Smithburg of Fairfield, IA; 4 children, Bradley, Nathaniel, Anthony, and Madalyn Smithburg of Fairfield, IA; parents, Dennis and Carolyn Smithburg of Batavia, IA; 4 brothers, David (Madonna) Smithburg of Fairfield, IA, Daniel (Kelly) Smithburg of Tomah, WI, Damon (Shannon) Smithburg of Columbia, MO, and Andrew (Sarah) Smithburg of Fairfield, IA; 3 sisters, Denise (Chris) Pearl of Vernon Hills, IL, Elizabeth (Lynn) Forrest of Batavia, IA and Jennifer (Chuck) Melvin of Libertyville, IA; one brother-in-law, Jake Pohren of Pleasant Plain, IA; one sister-in-law, Jennifer (Mike) Baker of Douds, IA; his grandpa, Everett Smithburg of Fairfield, IA; mother-in-law, Liz Pohren of Fairfield, IA; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Denver Kinyon, Marjorie Kinyon Bailey, and Jeanette Smithburg; one aunt, Bonnie Eicher; two nephews, Andy Smithburg and Jordon Baker; father-in-law, Larry Pohren; and brother-in-law, Jeff Pohren.
