Elsworth Lester Cook Jr. age 74, of Fairfield passed away December 14, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Visitation for family and friends will be 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday December 19, 2018 at Behner Funeral Home.
According to his wishes the body has been cremated.
Elsworth was born June 21, 1944 to Elsworth and Iwanda (Hoage) Cook Sr. in Fairfield, Iowa.
Elsworth had lived most of his life in the Fairfield area. He farmed and worked for Iowa Malleable in the foundry.
Elsworth was known by many names; Papa, Els, and grandpa. He enjoyed nature and the outdoors, by fishing, hunting, playing guitar, and working on lawn mowers.
He was very friendly and enjoyed conversation with everyone. Elsworth had many gifts, talents, and a wide range of knowledge that will be missed.
Elsworth walked through life whistling, singing and he always put others before himself.
His home was a hub for family and friends , even if it was to stop for a glass of Kool-Aid or a cup of coffee.
Elsworth fought for all of his kids and raised them as a single father at a time that it was unheard of. He received both father’s day and mother’s day cards, because to his children, he was both.

Elsworth Cook Jr. accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior.
He is survived by ; Rick (Tammy) Cook of Fairfield, Elsworth Cook III of Fairfield, Elisha Cook of Waco, Texas, and Step child Savannah Lobberecht, 14 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 1 sister Pam Blakley, and step father Dale Ritz.
Elsworth was preceded by his parents.
