Doris Rose Johnston

Doris Rose Johnston, age 86 formerly of Fairfield, passed away Monday, February 29, 2016 at Wapello Specialty Care, Wapello, IA.

Per her wishes she has been cremated.

Visitation for family and friends will be 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm, Sunday, March 6, 2016 at Behner Funeral Home prior to the memorial service.

Memorial service will be held 2:00 pm, Sunday, March 6, 2016 at Behner Funeral Home, with Pastor Danny Cary officiating. Burial will be at Howard Grove Cemetery at a later date.

Doris was born at home in Jefferson County on December 27, 1929 to Glenn and Verle (Bray) Beauchamp. She married Donald W. Johnston on June 8, 1947 at the Christian Parsonage. They were married 63 years before he passed away October 22, 2010.

Doris lived most of her life in the Fairfield area. She was a cashier at United Telephone for 20 years and Farmers Telephone for 4 years. Doris interests/hobbies were reading, crafts, crocheting, flowers and collecting salt and pepper shakers. What she enjoyed most was spending time with her family and friends.

Doris is survived by her 4 children, Ronald (Janice) Johnston of Marion, IA, Delores (John) Walker of Hedrick, IA, Patricia (Bob) Palmquist of Faribault, MN and Jerry (Susan) Johnston of Cedar Rapids, IA; 6 grandchildren, Craig (Lisa) Johnston, Melissa (John) Andries, Christine (Allan) Klug, Tony (Jeannette) Worley Jr., Jarred (Shannon) Johnston and Nickolaus Palmquist; 10 great grandchildren; and 5 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Verle Beauchamp; her husband, Donald Johnston; and two brothers, Leo and Christie Beauchamp.
