Charles W. Eastburn, age 79 of Fairfield, IA passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2007 at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield following a short illness.
Mr. Eastburn was born May 30, 1928 in Delta, Iowa to B. Ralph and Rachel (Bennett) Eastburn. He is a graduate of Fairfield High School with the class of 1946. He joined the United States Army following high school in the First Cavalry Division during the occupation of Japan until his honorable discharge in January of 1948. Following his military service, he attended the University of Iowa, graduating with a BA in Commerce in 1951. Mr. Eastburn is also a graduate of the School of Banking, the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
Charles Eastburn was united in marriage to Maxine M. Elliott in Des Moines, Iowa on September 30, 1951. She died on February 24, 2002. They have three children: David Eastburn and his wife Vicki of Fairfield, Iowa; Kimberly Walther and her husband Mark of Gambrills, MD; and Ann Koopal and her husband Craig of Urbandale, Iowa. Additionally, he has seven grandchildren.
He was a long time community leader having served on many economic development boards and committees in Fairfield. He was the President of the Chamber of Commerce in 1965, as well as the Treasurer of the School Board and the Greater Jefferson County Foundation. His father was the President and Chairman of the Board of the Iowa State Bank and Trust Company and Mr. Eastburn succeeded him upon his father's death in 1966. He retired from the bank in 1990 and from of board of directors in 2004.
Mr. Eastburn was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and one brother, Ben Eastburn.

Private family graveside services were held Saturday, June 30, 2007 at Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield, IA.
The family requests memorials be made in lieu of flowers to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairfield, the Naval Academy Athletic Association, or the Columbia University Baseball Association.
