Charles Hamilton Derr

Charles Hamilton Derr age 91, of Fairfield, passed away Monday, May 21, 2018, at Parkview Care Center.

Visitation for family & friends will be 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Thursday, May 24, 2018, at Behner Funeral Home.

Graveside service will be 11:00 am, Friday, May 25, 2018, at Wilson Cemetery, Independence, Iowa with words of comfort by Grandson Mark Copeland.

Memorials may be made to Southeast Iowa Blood Center or Conservation Foundation of Jefferson County.  Cards and memorials may be mailed to 1100 South 7th Street, Fairfield, Iowa 52556.

Charles was born November 14, 1926, to Charles Curtis and Laura (Hamilton) Derr in Independence, IA.  He married Wilma “Kay” Robertson on April 5, 1958, in Muscatine, Iowa.  This April they celebrated 60 years of marriage.

Charles served in the Navy during WW II.  He and Kay have lived in Fairfield for 56 years and he worked at French Reneker as a draftsman.    Charles enjoyed going to Old Threshers each year and seeing the old steam engines.  Some of his interests were woodworking, gardening and painting.   He was known for being able to fix anything. Charles will be greatly missed by those who called him husband, dad, grandpa, great grandpa and friend.

Left to share Charles’ memories are his wife, Kay Derr of Fairfield, IA; 3 children, Jennifer Copeland of Fairfield, IA, Linette (Brett) Page of Kirksville, MO and Charles (Roberta) Derr of Lexington, IL; 4 grandchildren, Kimberly (Aaron) Wilson, Mark (Christine) Copeland, Matthew (Megan) Page and Bryan (Tessa) Copeland; and 6 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Laura Derr; and two brothers, Rodger and Gordon.
