Carl Hearn age 69 of Batavia, passed away Friday, August 14, 2026 at home surrounded by his loving family

There will be a private service held at a later date. Behner Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Carl was born in the car behind the wheel at Junction 303 & 34 to Maynard M and Josephine (Pearson) Hearn. He attended Fairfield School District (1975).

Carl married Jacquilyn DeVore in Fairfield on February 28, 1981. They shared 45 wonderful years together raising their family in Batavia until buying the Bugtussle where Carl spent his final days. They took the adventure wherever they went, they enjoyed family time and watching their grandchildren grow.

Carl owned his own carpenter business “Hearn Building” for many years and also worked various jobs with different trades before retiring in 2019. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting, boating, camping, and anything involving history. He cherished spending time with his grandchildren. Carl also volunteered for Batavia Fire Department for many years. You could usually find Carl somewhere on his farm, in the shop with a project, or sharing stories and jokes with friends and family. His family and friends would describe him as the "Jack of all trades".

He is survived by his wife, Jacqui of Batavia; two children, Neal (Alyx) DeVore and Carly Morris; 6 grandchildren, Rozaline DeVore, Juniper DeVore, Violet DeVore, Iris DeVore, Drake and Dexter Morris; siblings, Deb (Dennis) Rotenburger, Tim (Lois) Hearn; sister-in-law, Judy Hearn; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents Maynard and Josephine, step dad, Daryl “Doc” Anderson; brother, Clifford Anderson, Maynard M Hearn Jr. and Ralph Hearn.
