Bonnie M. Peaslee

March 25, 1935 — October 12, 2018

Bonnie M. Peaslee, 83, 506 South B Street, Fairfield, Iowa, entered into eternal life at 6:42 PM, October 12, 2018, at ­­­her home surrounded by loving family members.

Services will be 5:00 pm, Thursday, October 25, 2018 , at First Lutheran Church with the Pastor Greg Friedrich Officiating.  Burial will be at 12:30 pm, Friday, October 26, 2018, at Iowa Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 34024 Veterans Memorial Drive, Adel, Iowa with Chaplin Chris Fiske of the Iowa Army National Guard officiating. Veterans are invited to wear their service uniform for the internment ceremony.   The body will be cremated.  There will be a visitation prior to the service, starting at 4:00 pm, Thursday, October 25, 2018, at First Lutheran Church.  After the funeral service there will be time for remembrances from family and friends along with a light meal served in the basement of the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church of Fairfield or Mission Builders of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, or Women of the ELCA First Lutheran Church of Fairfield.

Bonnie Mae Rehder Peaslee was born March 25, 1935, at a farm home near Early, Iowa, in Sac County, Iowa, the daughter of Vern William and Fern Hansen Rehder.  Bonnie had an unwavering faith in God. She was baptized on April 14, 1935, at Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake, Iowa.  She was confirmed June 6, 1948, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Sac City, Iowa.  She married Dr. Roland G. Peaslee April 2, 1960, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Sac City, Iowa.  She was a graduate of Sac City High School in 1952 and Iowa State University in 1958.  Bonnie was commissioned August, 1958, into the U. S. Army and served two years in the Army Medical Specialist Corps at Brooke Army Medical Center and Ft. Hood Army Hospital.  She has lived in Fairfield, Iowa since 1960.

Bonnie was a member of First Lutheran Church and was a former council member, religious education teacher and chairperson of several church committees.  She was a member of the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America serving as its president, and on district and state boards and as a state delegate to its national convention.  She was a former member of American Association of University Women and a past president of Junior Women’s Club.  She was a member of the Iowa and American Dietetic Associations, and the Iowa and American Optometric Auxiliary.  Bonnie was a member of P.E.O. Chapter HA and present member of Chapter MB.  For thirty-two years Bonnie was the bookkeeper for the Eyecare Center, now Wolfe Vision Center.

Bonnie and her husband, Roland, were commissioned by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America as Mission Builders in 1999, and assisted growing and new congregations for ten years with church building projects while living in their recreational vehicle, moving from state to state where needed. During the winter months they would help at church camps in Texas.

Bonnie enjoyed family travel in their recreation vehicle visiting all forty-nine states and all the provinces of Canada.

After Mission Builders retirement, she and Roland visited relatives around the country during the summers and spent their winters in the Rio Grande valley near Mission, Texas.

Bonnie and Roland returned to Fairfield in 2017 to spend remaining time in Iowa.

Survivors include her husband of fifty-eight years, Roland, three sons, Dr. Alan and wife, Patricia, of Huntsville, Alabama, Brian and wife, Chestra of Royal Oak, Michigan; Jay and wife, Kirsten, of Centennial, Colorado; one daughter Dian Carmody and husband, Jerry of Trophy Club, Texas; thirteen grandchildren; and sister-in-law Vina Rehder of Kennedale, Texas, brothers Larry and wife, Myris, of Destrehan, Louisiana, Paul and wife, Janene, of Littleton, North Carolina, and sisters Phyllis DiMenna and husband, Nick of Arroyo Grande, California, and Joanne Harmon and husband Larry of Sequim, Washington.

She was preceded in death by grandparents, parents, one brother, William and one niece, Robin Lang.
