About Us

Our History

Our Founder, Weston Behner, joined Campbell's Funeral Home on February 15, 1930. He purchased the business with his partner, Ross Dudgeon, in 1936 and later purchased Mr. Dudgeon's interest in 1937.

Weston welcomed his son, Fred, into the business when Fred acquired his Funeral Director's License in 1970.

Weston passed away on October 14, 1987, but his son, Fred, with his wife Nancy, and a dedicated staff, continued the exceptional quality of care and service. In 1988, Fred welcomed funeral director Arnold Weirup, from Maquoketa, Iowa. Fred and Nancy sold the funeral home to Arnold and Denise Weirup in 2012. Although Fred Behner passed away in 2014, Arnold and Denise continued the Behner legacy for over 10 years and then sold the funeral home to Scott and Rachel Brown, August 1, 2023. Arnold and Denise continue to work at the funeral home with Scott and Rachel.

Behner Funeral Home has been in the same location since 1930. In 2003, a crematorium was added to provide on-site service for Fairfield and the surrounding communities. In addition to the crematory, casket and urn selection rooms were also added, as well as additional handicap facilities and entrances. The entire staff is honored to serve the people of Fairfield and the surrounding communities.
