Ruth Maxine Humphrey Vandegriff

Ruth Maxine Humphrey Vandegriff, age 86 of Fairfield, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2012 at the Jefferson County Health Center.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church in Fairfield, with Pastor Nate Nims officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 1, 2012 at Behner Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church. Cards and memorials can be sent to Gayle Gilpin ~ 1503 Southview Circle, Fairfield, Iowa 52556.

Ruth was born on April 9, 1925 in Davis County, near Troy, Iowa to Elmer Harrison and Eula May Pearsall Humphrey. She married William “Bill” Creighton Vandegriff on May 25, 1942. He passed away January 10, 2006.

She was a sewing instructor at Patton Sewing Center, a manager at Luellen’s Clothing and a sales lady at Kurka’s Jewelry store.

Ruth is survived by 3 children: Gloria (Brian) Vandegriff-Honea of Garland, Texas, Neil (Trudy) Vandegriff of Fairfield and Gayle Gilpin of Fairfield, 7 grandchildren: Tony and Nick Vandegriff, Vincent and Matthew Waggoner and Tyler, Dylan and Haylee Gilpin, 4 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren and 3 siblings: Doris Humphrey Walker of Redmond, Oregon, Wayne (Evelyn) Humphrey of Milton and Elizabeth (William) Rysdam of Burlington, Wisconsin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 brothers: Robert and Dean Humphrey, 1 sister: Irene Jackson and 2 grandsons: Nathan Vandegriff and Andrew Waggoner.
